Lifestyle Photographer Vancouver
Hey, I’m Kelly! I’m a mom of three and a lifestyle photographer in Vancouver. You may have just read that and thought “what the heck is lifestyle?” Well, I’m about to answer that question, show you some examples and tell you why I choose to capture families in this style rather than the more traditional posed photography style!
You’ve likely seen the very traditional photography style, and likely grew up with it – the “look at the camera and say cheese” style. Or, if you’re thinking of newborn, the Anne Geddes, wrapped baby in a basket thing. As a lifestyle photographer in Vancouver, this is not what I do. In fact, lifestyle is essentially the opposite. During my sessions, we often grab one of these images and call it the “grandparent shot” since this is always the photo Grandma and Grandpa love. But my style is much more unposed and natural. It’s you and your family hanging out in your home or playing on the beach or in a field. While there’s generally still some guidance because no one is comfortable in front of the camera, its generally more to encourage play and interaction than to tell you where or how to stand.
Personally, I’ve always been drawn to more lifestyle images. These natural images are great for capturing something that I find to be so important for images of our little ones: connection. These are the images that give you tingles down your spine or make you feel warm and fuzzy when you look at them years later.
Let’s be honest here; as moms, when we hire people to take photos of us with our kids, whether they’re photos of us with a newborn, or our children, it’s not just so we remember what they looked like. We want to remember how they acted, and our special connection with them at that stage of life. Lifestyle photography captures the emotion and relationship in a way that posed, staged photos just can’t.
As a mom of three little ones myself, what matters most is the memories of who they were, their little personalities. Photos of their natural, mischievous smiles are priceless heirlooms, and when my daughter is 15, full of attitude and not wanting to spend her time with me, I’m going to be so grateful for the images I have of her as a 4-year-old, full of life, smiling her silly smile and cuddling me close.
This is what I do as a lifestyle photographer in Vancouver. I capture real, authentic memories and the unique relationship of each family. And I’d love to capture these genuine, priceless memories for you.
