Summer Family Portraits in Vancouver
The summer is one of my favourite times of the year to book a family portrait in the city. Summer family portraits in Vancouver are very popular, so you’ll want to think about booking your session sooner than later. Today I’m going to share some of my top tips for a summer family portrait session and why this is one of the best times of the year for a portrait session.
Why is Summer a Great Time for Family Portraits in Vancouver?
We all know that the winter weather in Vancouver can be quite temperamental. That’s why summer family portraits in Vancouver are a great option. You are far less likely to get rained on, and your kids will be warm enough to stay outdoors for the whole shoot. You can plan for the whole family to wear fun summer outfits, with girls in adorable summer dresses and cute overalls with shorts for younger boys. As far as the lighting, you’ll also find you are more likely to get that beautiful golden glow rather than an overcast day that’s more likely at other times of the year.
Top Locations for Summer Portraits
You’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to the best locations for summer family portraits in Vancouver. Stanley Park is one of my favourite spots in the city, and it makes for a great day out for your whole family. Jericho Beach is another great option and is well-sheltered from the wind when compared to other beaches in the area. Whytecliff Park is located near West Vancouver’s Horseshoe Bay and is ideal for a sunset shoot.
Tips for Keeping Kids Up Until Sunset
One of the best times of the day for summer family portraits in Vancouver is sunset. However, the challenge that comes with booking a session at that time of the day is finding ways to keep younger kids up until this time. On the day of your portrait session, I recommend that you aim for a later nap, which will allow young children to wake up in time for the session and be ready to go. Plan to change into PJs on the way home before you get in the car, so they can sleep until you arrive home. Pack plenty of snacks with you too to enjoy before, during and after the shoot. These can be a good way to replenish energy in the middle of a session when kids start getting tired!
Summer is without a doubt the ideal time for summer family portraits in Vancouver. It’s a very popular time of the year for this service, so make sure you book your session in advance if you’re planning to make the most of the summer weather. By following the tips I’ve shared above, you can find the perfect location for your summer family portraits and ensure your kids have the energy to stay up for a sunset session.
