I could honestly take newborn photos all day long. These sessions really are my favourite, and this sweet family’s newborn photography Vancouver session was really no different. There’s something more intimate about these sessions – coming into a clients home and meeting their brand new baby. I get a small glimpse of their life together as they transition into parenthood or into a larger family. And my absolute love of tiny squishy newborn babies helps too!

Sara and Mark recently tackled a cross country move into Vancouver, in the middle of a pandemic, while expecting their second child. As someone who recently moved just up the street with a newborn and struggled with it, I was fairly impressed when they told me this!

Their beautiful new Vancouver home was the perfect setting for our newborn photography session. In spite of the fact that they had moved so recently, their home was cozy and beautifully decorated, complete with a beautiful, yet minimalistic, nursery for Baby J.

Their oldest daughter is almost 3-years-old. When I photograph newborn sessions for families with toddlers, I always assume that we’re going to take the full amount of time. Between baby’s needs and toddlers tendencies to be choosy about when they do or don’t want to participate, I expect to spend a fair amount of time catering to big sister or brother as well as taking breaks to change and feed baby.

This little girl, though; she was a unicorn. I don’t think we had a single moment where she didn’t want to be part of the photos. Never once did she need to be bribed, she didn’t ever run off to play with toys. She happily snuggled her parents and little sister, smiled for the camera and looked intently for baby girl’s toes and tiny nose when asked.

In fact, she was so well behaved that I was finished in just over an hour, and came home with so many gorgeous images that it took me almost a week to sort through them!

Capturing these sweet memories, telling their story of welcoming their newest addition, and helping to hold onto these fleeting newborn features and moments are why I do what I do. I love being able to help families effectively pause time in an image, so they can better remember these days that pass so quickly!
