Newborn sessions are my jam. Those teeny tiny toes. Those itty bitty fingers. Those squishy little cheeks! I could spend all day with infants… and fortunately for the time being I get to! There’s nothing I love more than a nicely swaddled, dozy little babe. We’ve always swaddled our babies until they were probably too big for it, but I love tightly folding that tiny little baby burrito and snuggling tight.

The last thing a brand new mama needs to worry about, though, is which swaddle to use for her newborn session. One of the perks of any of my sessions is my client closet. For newborn sessions, I personally bring along a small little “closet” (it’s really a box) of newborn items including neutral onesies, adorable hats and my absolute favourite swaddles.

At the beginning of our session, my clients often take a moment to rifle through my items and choose a couple of the swaddles I bring to use. Since I only want the very best for my clients, I bring high quality, gorgeous swaddles – the same brands I’ve used on all my kids.

Mini Scout Swaddle Blankets for Newborn Sessions

Mini Scout makes the most beautiful floral swaddles I have personally found. Their blankets are made of a buttery soft cotton that only gets softer with each wash and they offer gorgeous, simple, vintage inspired floral patterns that make me wish I had another girl. I unfortunately discovered this stunning brand when my daughter was too old to use a swaddle blanket anymore, but I absolutely love being able to offer them to my clients for gorgeous newborn images of their baby girls.

Mebie Baby Swaddles

Mebie Baby is my first choice for more gender neutral swaddles, though they also have some gorgeous floral prints that I carry with me to each session as well. They are also what I use every day for my tiny little boy. These swaddles are also 100% cotton and get softer with each wash. Ours our now so soft, I cuddle with them myself sometimes and wish they had them in my size! As I write this, my three-month-old baby is snoozing away wrapped in one of our favourite Mebie Baby swaddles.

While these two brands make up the majority of my collection, I generally also carry around just a neutral coloured swaddle from Aiden and Anais in case baby’s nursery has enough pattern!
