Whether you are a local looking for something new to do this weekend or are just visiting Tofino, there are so many different things to do in Tofino for families. Here are just a few of the top places that I’d highly recommend you check out in Tofino this year.

Visit the Local Beaches and Tidal Pools

When considering things to do in Tofino with your family, my number one recommendation is to check out some of the beaches and tidal pools. My favourite ones include Mackenzie, Chesterman, and Cox Bay, all of which offer large tidal pools for your kids to explore. Mackenzie is a good option for younger children, as it’s a little more sheltered. Even in the summer months, the water temperature is usually pretty chilly, so keep this in mind when planning your trip here.

Visit the Saturday Market

Between mid-May and mid-October each year, make sure you check out the weekly Saturday market. It’s one of my favourite things to do in Tofino, and it’s ideal for anyone visiting the area and looking for some local gifts to take home. It’s a great day out for your whole family, and there’s usually live music and entertainment here. Enjoy lunch here during your time in Tofino and enjoy feasting on delicious local products.

Surfing Lessons

One of the most unexpected things to do in Tofino is to take surfing lessons. The area is popular with surfers all year round, and there are many surf shops that offer lessons for kids ages six and above. For a unique family bonding experience, consider booking a private family session with Pacific Surf Co. or Surf Sister. I recommend that you always wear a wetsuit in the water here though, as it can get rather cold even in the summer.

Head Out on a Whale Watching Tour

If you are looking to enjoy a once-in-a-lifetime experience here in Tofino, head out on a whale watching tour. I highly recommend going with Ocean Outfitters, which offers both Zodiac tours and full enclosed boat tours. Young children are welcomed to these tours, and you’ll have the chance to spot sea lions, sea otters, and many other creatures in their natural habitat.

Cycle Along Cox Bay

Cox Bay is the ideal starting point for a day out on your bike, and there’s a 7km paved bike path that heads towards downtown Tofino. It’s one of the best things to do in Tofino throughout the year, and it’s a relaxing and flat ride that’s ideal for the whole family. Even if you are visiting the area, you’ll find plenty of bike rental stores where you can hire a bike for the day to enjoy the beautiful scenery in the local area.

There are so many things to do in Tofino for visitors of all ages, and regardless of your personal interests, there’s something for everyone to enjoy in this area. If you are visiting Tofino this year, I recommend you stay in the area for a good few days in order to make the most of all there is to see and do in the local area.
