10 Holiday Events in Vancouver you Can’t Miss
The Holiday season is fast approaching, and while the hustle and bustle and the to-do lists can be tiring, the magic of the season for kids makes it such an amazing time to create some long-lasting family memories! Since family memories are my jam, I thought I’d kick off the season by sharing with you 10 Holiday events in Vancouver to help you make family memories this year!
Of course everyone knows these events and thinks of them as the best ones when you’re looking to book some Holiday fun, but I thought I’d start with them in case any of them slipped your mind!
Canyon Lights at Capilano Suspension Bridge
This magical tree-top adventure is a great one for younger and older kids alike! You’ve seen the photos, I’m sure, so I won’t spend too much time going on about this event, but my one hot tip: try and go on a weekday at least a couple weeks before Christmas! If you are going on the weekend or the week before Christmas, plan to park fairly far away and walk or take the shuttle.
VanDusen Festival of Lights
VanDusen is always gorgeous, but add lights and it’s just a dream. 15 acres of gorgeous garden with over a million twinkly lights definitely gets your family into the holiday spirit!
Bright Nights in Stanley Park
This has been a personal favourite since I was a kid. Unfortunately, there’s no word yet on whether or not the miniature train will be functional and running this season, so if you’re hoping for the train, make sure you keep an eye on their website for the announcement.
Vancouver Christmas Market
With it’s traditional carousel and fun Christmas treats, Vancouver Christmas market is fun for the kids and the parents alike!
Glow
This is my family’s personal favourite. My kids loved searching for the elves last year, looking at all the lights, getting glow wands and light up drinks!
While the regulars are always a good time, there are many holiday events in Vancouver that are a little lesser known that also would be a great way to create family memories this year!
Goh Ballet “the Nutcracker” at Queen Elizabeth
Since my daughter is a dancer and loves the Nutcracker (she watched the dance of the sugarplum fairy all year round), the Nutcracker is a Christmas tradition in my family. Seeing the Goh Ballet performance sounds like a spectacular way to ring in the season.
The PNE Winter Fair
Maybe I live under a rock, but I had no clue there was a winter fair at the PNE! Now I do, it’s added to our list for sure. It includes the Holiday Express, a journey to meet Santa that involves solving puzzles, Winter Lights, skating, ice bumper cars and live programming!
The VSO Presents Traditional Christmas
For the music lovers out there, this is such a great option. Hearing the VSO perform is such a treat, and nothing makes it feel like the Holidays like traditional Christmas music!
West Vancouver‘s Dundarave Festival of Lights
Dundarave is always a beautiful place at any time of year, but the magic of it all lit up for Christmas is something else! It starts with a tree decorating party on December 3 and concludes with a wassail and bonfire on December 17. Throughout that time you can catch free concerts and other entertainment. This event also raises money for local homelessness initiatives.
Lights at Lafarge Lake
This is another of my family’s favourites. Lafarge Lake in Coquitlam is a 0.7 mile loop, and from November 24 onwards it is lit up with gorgeous displays including a light tunnel, swans in the lake, an elf home and much much more. The best part is, it’s free!
These 10 Holiday events in and around Vancouver are sure to help you savour your time with your family this season and create beautiful family memories!
