Abbotsford Midwife: options for your prenatal care

Abbotsford midwife care options for expectant mothers.

Care for yourself and your growing baby is not something that should be considered lightly. There are so many different and unique options out there for pre-natal care these days. Of course, as you’ll be going to appointments quite regularly, you’ll want someone local, who can easily be reached. So, I’ve decided to create a list of Abbotsford Midwife Clinics to help you begin your research and find the right care provider for you and your baby if you’re in the Abbotsford area!

I personally love the midwife model of care. All three of my pregnancies have been overseen by a team of midwives, and I can’t vouch enough for the holistic and supportive model of care. All three pregnancies have been extremely different, all with their own challenges and I love that my midwives keep me informed and care as much about my mental health as my physical health.

Abbotsford Midwife Option 1: Abbotsford Midwifery and Wellness

Abbotsford Midwifery and Wellness serves women from Abbotsford, Mission, Aldergrove, Chilliwack, and Langley. They have hospital privileges at Abbotsford Regional Hospital and Chilliwack General Hospital as well as access to medical services such as ultrasound and laboratory testing.

They also share space with Dr. Siddhartha Das, Obstetrician/Gynecologist, which is extremely convenient should your pregnancy require this type of care. They also offer Naturopathic Medicine, Acupuncture, Registered Massage Therapy, and Counselling all at one location! As someone who recently discovered the joys of a pre-natal RMT, I can’t stress enough that this is a great option!

Second Midwifery option: West Coast Health Collective

Another Abbotsford Midwife Clinic that is definitely worth checking out is West Coast Health Collective. Their team consists of eight Registered Midwives and a Registered Massage Therapist. They serve expectant families in Abbotsford, Mission, Aldergrove and Langley and have privileges at Abbotsford Regional Hospital and Langley Memorial Hospital.

West Coast Health Collective is also unique in the fact that it offers pre-natal classes, taught by the registered midwives on staff. These are one day 4-hour intensive classes that cover topics such as the stages of labour, comfort in labour, support, breathing techniques, breastfeeding and postpartum mood disorders. These classes are extremely useful, especially for first-time parents. They also have a lending library and a resource wall that you can help yourself to, as well as a play area for your older children to play while you wait.

Abbotsford Midwife number 3: Cheam Midwifery

Cheam Midwifery offers a much smaller team than many of the other Abbotsford Midwife clinics. With only two to three midwives, clients get the opportunity to know each midwife quite well over their pregnancy, and will be very comfortable with whichever midwife is on-call during their labour.

Option number 4: Thrive Midwifery

In case a small team still isn’t intimate enough for you, Thrive Midwifery is run by one Registered Midwife serving Abbotsford, Mission, Chilliwack and East Maple Ridge clients. Like most midwives, Carolyn who runs Thrive Midwifery is dedicated to helping expectant parents make the best decisions for themselves in regards to their pregnancy and child birth experience. She believes “childbirth preparation is not just about preparing oneself for labour, but also about preparing oneself for the changes of identity and roles that the pregnancy and birth bring.”

If you’re not directly in the Abbotsford area, but are still in search of a midwife to care for you during your pregnancy, check out my list of Vancouver Midwives for pre-natal care all over the Lower Mainland.

Once your care provider is taken care of, another important decision to make is how to treasure up this unique, transformative experience of becoming a parent! Maternity sessions are great for capturing this season of waiting and growing, but you really don’t want to miss out on capturing your sweet babe while they’re tiny and new!
