Places to Visit in Vancouver

Family playing at a Vancouver beach. Check out this list of places to visit in Vancouver

If you are travelling to Vancouver as a family this year, you’ll find there’s no shortage of things to do in the city with your kids. Today I’m going to share some of my favourite things to do as a family in the city so that you can make the most of your time together in Vancouver. These are some of the best places to visit in Vancouver, so make sure you add them to your itinerary!

Science World

Families with school-age children will love exploring Science World, which is run by a not-for-profit organization, ASTC Science World Society. You’ll find many permanent interactive exhibits on offer here, and I recommend you put aside two to three hours to explore everything. Throughout the year, they have various temporary displays as well, so check out what’s on at the current time before your visit. Younger children of ages 0 to 5 can still have fun here in the Wonder section, which is a safe area that’s designed to stimulate this age group.

Vancouver Aquarium

As Canada’s first public aquarium, the Vancouver Aquarium has been open since 1956. It’s located in Stanley Park, which is somewhere else you’ll enjoy spending time together as a family. As well as being a popular tourist attraction, I appreciate the work they do to educate visitors here and their marine animal rehabilitation projects. You’ll enjoy seeing thousands of different ocean species within the exhibits, which will delight children and adults of all ages. Typically visitors will spend between 90 minutes and two hours here, depending on how long you want to admire each of the areas for.

Stanley Park

You might be surprised to learn that Stanley Park is even bigger than Central Park in New York City. Families will enjoy spending hours exploring here on foot or by bike, enjoying the amazing views over the ocean and mountains. For younger children, head to the miniature train or enjoy the four playgrounds on offer throughout the park. You can link this with a visit to the Vancouver Aquarium while also learning more about local history when you admire First Nations totem poles on display here.

Capilano Suspension Bridge

On a day with fairer weather, head to the north shore to visit the Capilano Suspension Bridge, which is one of the most popular places to visit in Vancouver. This bridge hangs above the Capilano River, stretching over 460 feet long and standing at 230 feet high. It’s a thrilling experience for visitors of all ages, and you can also enjoy the Tree Top adventures or the Cliffwalk at the same time. To get here, consider catching the free shuttle from downtown, which has multiple stops for pickup throughout Vancouver.

There’s no shortage of great places to visit in Vancouver when visiting as a family this year. You’ll find attractions that are suitable to visit in any weather conditions but make sure you keep an eye on the weather forecast to make the most of the sunnier days during your trip. Vancouver offers a great combination of natural attractions and immersive experiences, which will help to keep you and your family entertained for multiple days here.
