5 Best Family Summer Activities in Vancouver

Family at the beach in Stanley Park, one of the 5 best family summer activities in Vancouver.

The summer is here, and there’s no better time to head out and see all that Vancouver has to offer for families. I love this time of year as the weather is fairer, and you can make the most of some of the outdoor attractions that might be off-limits in the winter months. Keep reading as I share the 5 best family summer activities in Vancouver to enjoy this year.

1. Visit the Beach

During the warmer summer months, it’s time to head out and enjoy the many beaches in Vancouver. Some of my favourite beaches to visit include English Bay, where you can admire the incredible sunsets over the beach. If you fancy a barbecue this summer, Spanish Banks is an excellent option. While the beaches are enjoyable throughout the year, you can make a full day out of your time here during the summer months, and kids will love running around and exploring.

2. Granville Island

Granville Island can easily be accessed by car and offers a variety of attractions for the whole family during the summer months. The Granville Island Public Market is a great spot to pick up a picnic to enjoy during your day out, where you can select local baked goods and fresh fruits and vegetables. I love enjoying lunch here while admiring the amazing views that stretch over Flash Creek. For kids, you’ll want to check out the playground and water slide, which are free to access and open all summer long.

3. Queen Elizabeth Park

While adults will enjoy seeing the beautiful blooms on display at Queen Elizabeth Park, you’ll find there’s plenty to keep kids entertained here too. They’ll love seeing the exotic birds and plants on display, which will make you feel like you’ve been transported to a tropical island. After your visit, you can add on a round of pitch-and-putt, which is always fun for kids and teens.

4. Stanley Park

No trip to Vancouver in the summer is complete without seeing one of the five best family summer activities in Vancouver, which is a day out at Stanley Park. Pack a picnic and prepare to be entertained for a full day here. If you do find the weather turns on you, you can always head to the Vancouver Aquarium to enjoy the marine animals and sea lions on display. Outside, you’ll enjoy visiting the beaches, playgrounds or taking a ride on the miniature train. The park really comes to life in the summer months, attracting locals and visitors each and every day.

5. Grouse Mountain

Just 20 minutes outside of downtown Vancouver you’ll find Grouse Mountain and Mount Seymour. While these are great to visit in the winter when they are covered in snow and perfect for skiing, a trip here in the summer gives you a whole different experience. Families with older children can consider hiking and mountain biking or just take the gondola ride to enjoy the spectacular views from the top.

These are just five of the best family summer activities in Vancouver to enjoy this year. I can’t wait to head out and explore more of the city this summer and make the most of the time outdoors in the warmer weather.
