Winter Activities in Vancouver
The winter is one of the more challenging times of the year to find things to do for your whole family. The good news is that there are plenty of winter activities in Vancouver, all of which will help your family to spend precious time together without being stuck indoors all day long. Keep reading as I share some of my top winter activities in Vancouver for you to enjoy this year.
Skiing
No winter in the city is complete without taking part in one of the most popular winter activities in Vancouver – skiing. You won’t have to travel too far to enjoy this activity, as you can go to the North Shore mountains of Grouse, Cypress, and Seymour. They are just thirty minutes away from downtown Vancouver, and the passes are very affordable compared to elsewhere in the country. You’ll find runs to suit all experience levels and children can join in on the fun and get lessons here too. The younger they are when you get your kids into skiing, the more confident they’ll be to carry on this sport when they get older.
Capilano Suspension Bridge
Just because the temperatures have dropped, you don’t have to spend your whole winter indoors. Head out to the Capilano Suspension Bridge, which is one of our top activities to enjoy in Vancouver at any time of the year. We recommend timing your visit for the Canyon Lights show, which is the perfect event to get you in the winter spirit. This would be a great day out for your whole family after a busy week at school, allowing you to spend some much-needed time outdoors and reconnect with nature.
Watch a Hockey Game
An indoor activity that’s fun for the whole family in the winter is watching a game of Hockey. You’ll find that the Vancouver Canucks play each week throughout the season, with quite affordable tickets on offer for some matches. For the ultimate hockey experience, try to secure tickets to an NHL game. They can be hard to come by, but it’s well worth it for this incredible sporting experience.
Try Snowshoeing
Another of the best winter activities in Vancouver to enjoy this year is snowshoeing. It’s a great opportunity to get a little more exercise in, and you’ll find that the nearby Cypress and Seymour mountains have a range of routes for you to check out. You’ll see that the routes are very well marked, so you don’t have to worry about getting lost. One of my favourite routes is Dog Mountain, which you’ll find located on Seymour. It’s a very popular route but the beautiful views will make it clear to you why so many people come here.
Winter is one of the best times of the year to be in Vancouver. With so much to see and do, we encourage you to wrap up warm and head out and enjoy all that the city has to offer. Whether you are a winter sports enthusiast or prefer to stay warm indoors, you’ll have no trouble finding activities to keep your whole family entertained this winter.
