North Shore Kid Activities

During the weekends and school breaks, it can sometimes be difficult to know what you can do to keep your kids entertained. The good news is that the North Shore is packed with family-friendly activities that will provide your little ones with hours of entertainment. Let’s take a look at some of my top picks for North Shore kid activities that will keep you and your family busy in the upcoming months.

Horseshoe Bay

Horseshoe Bay is one of my favourite places to escape with my family. You’ll feel like you are on vacation for the day, thanks to the beautiful views and endless North Shore kid activities. If you need something to eat while you are in the area, I love visiting Flour Bakery. Kids will enjoy seeing the birds, crabs, and oysters down by the water, and you can spend hours exploring the playground. It’s home to a huge pirate ship and a giant whale, which will be quite a novelty for younger children. While this is a great spot to visit when the sun is out, you’ll still find it to be enjoyable on a rain-free day in the winter months.

Cates Park

Cates Park is one of my favourite North Shore kid activities as it really does have something for everyone. You can enjoy swimming and beachcombing along the shore, but if you are feeling more adventurous, you can rent their water sports equipment in the summer months. There are two playgrounds for kids to choose from here, as well as plenty of grass to play ball games. For families who enjoy hiking, take one of the shaded walking trails into the forest to witness more of the beauty of the natural area.

Visit the Little Libraries

Do your kids love to read? If so, take them on a stroll to look out for some of the North Shore little libraries. You’ll find maps online which can guide you to your local library, and the great thing about them is that they’ve expanded beyond just books. There are also spots available to share plants, fibre, craft supplies, and seeds, so it’s a great way to keep your kids busy in the summer months. Remember to drop off something in the libraries too on your way, which will help your kids to give back to the local community.

Fisherman’s Trail Hike

This is a short family-friendly loop hike which is located in the Lower Seymour Conservation Reserve. You’ll walk through the thick forest while also exploring remnants of homesteads that once stood in the area. Even the youngest of kids will find something to keep them entertained on this hike, which has even ground throughout the journey to keep them safe and sturdy.

There’s no shortage of things to see and do in North Shore with your family, and you’ll find that kids of all ages will love spending time outdoors and exploring the local area. Which one of these North Shore kid activities are you excited to try first? Whatever you do in the local area this year, make the most of the natural beauty and family-friendly activities on offer to keep your kids entertained during the weekends and holidays.
