Allegra first contacted me right in the middle of the worst of the pandemic. We were all stuck in social isolation and life with other people around felt weird and unnatural. But we were confident that her July due date would hopefully give enough time for things to die down and would make a newborn session feasible. And we were right! After a more socially-distanced maternity session at the beginning of June, it was so great to see her and John once again, this time with their sweet girl in their arms for their Newborn Photography in New Westminster.

It was a sweltering warm Saturday when I arrived at their home to meet their sweet daughter and capture this amazing new adventure for them. As per my COVID precautions, I donned my face mask, washed my hands and directed with my words instead of jumping in and taking charge as I usually do! This season has definitely been an exercise in self-control! We started with Baby in a sweet little romper, but as the heat increased over the session we decided a diaper and swaddle would keep her cooler.

Mom chose one of my favourite swaddles from my collection for – you can find one just as gorgeous at The Mini Scout. For our Newborn Photography in New Westminster it worked perfectly. Mom really wanted the tiny detail photos, so we pulled back that swaddle and got plenty of images of little feet and fists, that sweet tiny nose and that itty bitty little head.

We also decided to document Mom and Dad taking Baby Girl’s tiny hand and foot print as well. Their inkless print kit was easy to use and mess-free as they immortalized her itty bittiness.

Little Girl was a total champ. She was awake for most of our session, but was content being snuggled close to Mom or Dad. We made sure to commemorate her and daddy’s best snuggle position so that when she no longer fits on his chest, he can be remember those days when she slept soundly there.

I personally absolutely love it when clients want both a maternity and newborn session. It’s amazing to be invited into this adventure with them – from the season of anticipation, wondering what baby will look like and act like, to getting to celebrate with them when their tiny little bundle finally arrives.
