Fall Maternity Photography in Vancouver: Why This Season Is Perfect for Your Growing Family

Why Fall Is a Favourite for Maternity Photography

There’s something deeply comforting about autumn—the soft light, the layers, the golden trees. For expectant parents, fall is more than just pumpkin spice season—it’s the perfect time to capture your growing family with intention and beauty.

As a Vancouver maternity photographer, I often recommend fall sessions to families who want warmth, elegance, and ease. Whether you’re just starting to show or nearing the end of your pregnancy, this season sets a timeless, cosy backdrop for your portraits.

The Best Months to Book Your Fall Maternity Session

In Vancouver, the best fall light and foliage typically arrive between late September and mid-October. Depending on your due date, I recommend booking your maternity session between 28 and 34 weeks—when you’re visibly showing but still comfortable enough to move freely and enjoy the session.

Booking early ensures access to prime weekend spots and gives us time to plan wardrobe, locations, and styling with care.

What to Wear for Fall Maternity Photos

Fall maternity style is all about texture and tone. Here’s what photographs beautifully:

  • Flowy maxi dresses in warm neutrals (terracotta, olive, cream)
  • Cosy knit cardigans or sweaters layered over bump-hugging basics
  • Earth-toned boots, scarves, and minimal jewellery

As always, Kindred clients receive wardrobe guidance and style support to help you feel radiant and aligned with your home’s aesthetic.

Planning Your Session With Baby in Mind

Most maternity clients also book newborn sessions—and fall is the perfect time to get both on the calendar.

By capturing your pregnancy now, we can build a visual story that continues with your baby’s arrival. We’ll even ensure your fall wardrobe palette complements your future in-home newborn portraits, so your album or gallery wall feels cohesive.

What Clients Say About Their Maternity Experience

“Before our maternity session, Kelly made herself available to text with me to help pick outfits for the specific “feel” we wanted for this photo session. When it came to the actual photoshoot, my toddler was full of energy and hard to keep in one place! Needless to say we were very pleasantly surprised when Kelly did the photo reveal with us – we ended up loving all the photos, and Kelly captured beautiful emotions in the photos.” — Christine L.

“Our experience with Kelly was amazing for our maternity photoshoot, the pictures turned out beautifully and she was able to accommodate our needs in such a short span of time! ” — Amen D.
