If we’re being honest, parenthood can be a pretty lonely journey. We hear all the time that it takes a village to raise a child. Unfortunately, it’s getting harder and harder to actually find that village. That’s exactly why West Side Family Place was started! This center works with families to provide them with a community that will last long after the baby stage is over. As a Vancouver family photographer, I spend a lot of time connecting with parents who have found the best spots for them. Here’s why you need to know about this center!
About West Side Family Place

West Side Family Place was started in 1973 by two moms. Both Ellen LeFevre and Mary Lynn Burke knew that community was one of the most important tools for families just starting out. They put their brains together and wound up creating West Side. Since then, the center has only improved! They are continuously looking at how they can meet the needs of local parents. From hosting engaging classes to providing resources, this group is there for it all!
Services
While there are a lot of reasons to use West Side Family Place, most people come here for their classes. These sessions were created to boost your child’s development while letting you connect with other local parents. You can start attending from the first few months of your baby’s life thanks to their Mama and Papa Goose for Babies classes. During each session, you will help lead your baby through songs and dances while getting to know other parents in the area. If you are looking for mixed-age options, the group offers Play and Learn classes. Here, kids ages 0-5 years can enjoy circle time before they break out into free play. The center also offers cooking classes for toddlers and preschoolers.
If you are looking for something a little more parent-centric, West Side Family Place has options just for you! You can build up your confidence with their Nobody’s Perfect class or figure out the tricky 3-year-old stage with Making Sense of Preschoolers. They also offer one-on-one parenting support so you can have customized assistance for your exact situation!

In addition to their classes, West Side Family Place has several wonderful options you are going to adore! Their toy lending library gives you the perfect way to cycle through items so your child doesn’t get bored playing with the same thing for months on end. The center additionally offers a party venue where you can celebrate your child’s birthday with your family and friends.
